N15509 (cn 145238) One of the most incredible sunsets I'd ever seen, was this one on the evening of September 18, 2003 when outer bands of Hurricane Isabel stretched all the way to Michigan while the eye of the storm itself was making landfall between Cape Lookout and Ocracoke Island North Carolina with sustained winds of 105 mph. At one time in its life it obtained category 5 status, but was a "mere" category 2 here.

I,m surprised I miss this photo , but it reminds of of the movie version of Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, when the Van Allen radiation belt went awry and was burning up the atmosphere.

I remember that - the next morning it rained like hell and I was loading bags for Delta. Thought I was going to drown driving a belt loader that day!

Thanks guys! It didn't seem to set that day - more like it caught fire and eventually burned out. Everyone came out of the buildings to watch!
